Avan & Ari
Ari sat at her kitchen counter, finishing her Lucky Charms. When she was done, she stood up and set her bowl in the sink. She picked her phone up off the counter and walked up stairs to change. She pulled on jeans and a pink sweater, then headed into the bathroom. After putting on a light coat of eyeliner, she put a bow in her hair and looked in the mirror one last time. She couldn’t tell if what she was feeling was nerves or excitement, thought she didn’t know why she would be nervous. It was Avan, after all. Her phone went off and she smiled, seeing the message from Avan. kk, I’ll be here. <3 Ari hit reply and sat down on the bottom stair, waiting.
It hadn’t really been that long since she’d seen Avan. Maybe a week. But she still missed him. It was something she did easily. When she heard the knock at the door, she stood up and answered it, smiling when she saw him and the smile on his face. Ari pulled him inside by lightly by his hand and closed the door behind them. As soon as the door was closed, she wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him. “I missed you too much,” She spoke softly, still hugging him tightly.
Seeing Ari again and her reaction was fulfilling and especially having her in his arms now. She grabbed his hand and he stepped inside, hugging her back and feeling her warmth. “I missed you too babe,” he whispered. Of course it was never fun to be apart and miss somebody, that was sometimes the downside of being so close to someone. But he knew it was worth it, even if that made them vulnerable with each other. Besides, he couldn’t imagine not being as close to her as they were now. He knew some friendships faded but he hated the thought of them ever becoming distant so he pushed that out of his mind easily.
He held her as she hugged him back and then pulled away a bit, his arms still lingering on her waist. “I love that you miss me. But I don’t like being away from you,” he admitted and then leaned closer to peck her on the lips. He pushed a strand of hair back behind her ear so he could see her face better and that smile that he always admired. “You been doing alright?” He asked in a caring voice. Avan was sure he had asked that before but he wanted to make sure she was actually okay. It came as second nature to try to take care of her; one of his faults was that he was probably too protective. It was evident in the way he reacted to people hating on or hurting his friends, but especially so with Ariana. He sometimes got defensive too quickly when people thought anything less of her. He was aware that wasn’t always a good thing, but it was only because he felt so strongly about her.

Avan & Ari
She pulled away a bit but kept her arms around his neck. Ari listened to him talk, realizing how much she had missed his voice, even when he sounded concerned. She closed her eyes lightly as he moved the hair behind her ear and then opened them slowly. “I’m okay, really.” She smiled up at him. “I just don’t like being alone. My family is in Florida right now, so I’m here by myself.” She kissed him lightly on the lips. “Well not anymore, but I was before you got here.” She could not feel more comfortable than how she felt right now, in his arms. Knowing that he cared about her and would do anything to help her.
Leaning up, she kissed him again before asking, “How are you?” She smiled up at him, feeling warm throughout her body. Ariana knew that maybe they should sit down or something. But she didn’t want to let him go. She wanted to stay by his side.
Avan looked into Ari’s eyes and listened as she explained that she had been at home by herself. He knew what it was like to be away from family, they often provided support and when they weren’t around it was easy to become lonesome. He understood that and he he hoped he could provide some comfort to her. “Well, I’ll be here,” he said. He didn’t feel the need to specify what exactly he meant. He wouldn’t necessarily be at her home or right beside her, but he would always be around for her to call on and he’d be not just willing, but glad to stop by whenever. “I don’t want you to be lonely,” he shook his head. A lot of the time, fans thought of Ari and figured she always had it easy. Of course she was privileged like they all were, but that didn’t take away from the fact that she got hurt or upset from time to time, just like anyone else. Avan wanted to be there for her when those moments did inevitably arise.
Feeling her lips on his made him feel right at home, like this was where he needed to be. “I couldn’t be better,” he said honestly in response and pulled her closer so their lips met once more. The answer might have been different if she hadn’t been standing right there, with her arms reaching around his neck. But being back with Ari, where he could spend time with her and comfort her and see her smile, right now that was the only thing to occupy his mind.

Avan & Ari
Ari smiled into the kiss. She was happy to see him in such a good mood. The two of their moods seemed to be connected a lot of the time. If she was in a good mood, so was he. If something was upsetting him, she couldn’t feel right without fixing it. It was yet another factor of them being so close. One of the things she loved the most was how much her family loved and trusted him. They didn’t worry when she went out places if she was with Avan, because they knew that he would never let anything happen to her. And that was a comforting feeling for her as well. The lighter-than-air feeling filled her up again, as it had that night watching movies in the dark. When things turned from great, to wonderful. She stood on the front of her feet for a second, leaning up as she kissed him. This seemed like something they had been doing for ages, as if it was the most natural thing in the world. The two of them, together, happy and comfortable.
Though she didn’t want to, she pulled away for air. Letting out a small giggle, she looked up at him and couldn’t keep a smile off her face. He was just so incredible and she loved that he always seemed to be there for her. To Ari, it always seemed like he would drop everything and anything he was doing if she needed help or needed comfort. Sometimes she felt bad, but she tried not to. And every time she thanked him, he always told her it was no big deal. That it was what friends were for. But that didn’t mean she didn’t appreciate it. Or that she couldn’t thank him a thousand times over. She felt so lucky to have him in her life, and she wanted him to know that.
Avan for so long had thought things couldn’t get better between the two of them. Ari was amazing to him and their friendship had always been a special one. But this, this was something else entirely. They knew getting involved romantically could be a risk, that things might not work out. Avan was no expert on relationships, but he had his fair share of knowledge on them. People said dating your best friend would complicate everything. Things would start off rocky or confusing. Yet, this was far from it. It wasn’t this foreign and fragile thing he was afraid to act upon. It almost seemed simpler being with her together than it was before as just friends. Being with her was such an easy thing to do and of course an enjoyable one. It felt warm and comfortable and right. Familiar, even. Someone else who didn’t know better might have assumed they’d been together for years now. It certainly felt that way.
Ari leaning up to kiss him gave him that feeling again, the one he didn’t know how to describe. It was soft but exciting. While it felt natural, that sense of something new and passionate he had experienced from the first kiss hadn’t worn off. Once she had pulled away, a smile immediately crossed her face. Since he first met her, that smile was something that so easily caught his eyes. Although they had spent so much time together, he never stopped noticing. Anyone could see the beauty in a smile like hers, but he noticed it in a way that made him want to see it daily. He knew how lucky he was and he was certain he’d be lost without her, but he wasn’t going to dwell on that. Not while he was holding her right now and they were together, where things felt comfortable and simple and happy. When she giggled he couldn’t help but laugh, not a laugh as a response of something funny, but from something you genuinely enjoyed. “Stop being so adorable,” he teased and raised an eyebrow as if he was serious, although of course he didn’t mean it.

Avan & Ari
Ariana giggled at him again. She felt so incredibly happy, but that wasn’t new when it came to spending time with Avan. Although she knew that things were being said about the two of them, she didn’t really care. People could make all the rumors and speculations that they wanted, but it wouldn’t change them or how they felt for each other. Which, being totally honest, Ari didn’t know what that was for sure. She knew that she had ‘romantic’ feelings for him. That was extremely obvious. He was someone she cared about oh so much, in more ways than one. But no matter what, she still couldn’t put her finger on the butterflies in her stomach and the lighter-than-air feeling throughout her. It wasn’t that important to her though. She was with him and that was all that mattered to her right now.
Being close to him now, both physically and mentally, opened her eyes to see a lot of things about him. The way his eyes shined when he smiled and how, even when trying to look serious, there was always a tiny tiny smirk on his face. These things she had barely seen before shined out to her now, like a light house over the ocean. Another thing she noticed was how well they seemed to fit together. The height difference, the way they fit together like puzzle pieces, and how they always seemed to read each others mind. It was perfect. He seemed so perfect, she didn’t know what to do with herself. So she just leaned up and gave him a small kiss on the lips again. Taking a deep breath in, she smiled to herself. “God Avan, why do you always smell so good?” Ari said with a laugh. As weird as it felt to say that out loud, it was true.
Avan couldn’t help but smile at the sound of Ariana’s giggle. He could tell she was happy right now, like he was, and that uplifted his mood even more. Seeing her smile and laugh and knowing that she was genuinely happy, it was a rewarding feeling. As he leaned into the kiss, even just a peck on the lips made it so easy to forget his thoughts or anything around him. That was the effect she seemed to have on him, especially lately. He could just forget everything else except for the two of them, here together. It was crazy, but in a really good way. He loved that feeling she gave him, it was like having a break from reality and everyone could be in need of that sometimes. Even though it sounded silly, it was so enjoyable, so easy to forget and simply focus on her. “Well, I have to… I wouldn’t want you running away from me now, would I?” He answered, a small smirk appearing on his face. “Because that wouldn’t be good at all. In fact, I’d have to chase after you,” he joked, and then leaned closer to kiss her once more, bringing their lips together for a moment longer this time.

Ari & Avan | Night at the Beach
With his hand in hers, she felt more confident and excited than was physically possible. Ariana nodded happily, blushing a bit. “Thank you. And yeah, I’m ready. Let’s head out?” She locked the door behind them and then headed towards his car. It was a nice night, not really cold at all. Not very many people seemed to be out, but that was just her neighborhood. It might be totally different on the beach. Today it didn’t matter. Ari wanted to spend tonight with Avan and that’s what she was going to do. “So what’s on tonight’s agenda?” She asked, letting the curiosity get to her. She couldn’t help it. And if he didn’t have plans, that was fine. The beach was beautiful and romantic; perfect for valentines day. She walked over to the passenger side of the car and tried to open the door only to find it locked. Looking up at Avan, she smiled at waited for him to unlock it.
Just when Avan thought Ari couldn’t get any cuter, she smiled and her cheeks became rosy with blush. Sure he had seen her blush a million times before, but that was always an adorable sight. He didn’t think he’d ever get tired of it. And of course she was still as polite as ever. When ari asked where they were going, Avan simply responded, “Well, I have a few ideas in mind. You don’t want me to spoil it, do you?” he smirked just barely at her, knowing how she could often get curious about these things. But he knew there was more excitement like this so he wanted to draw it out for longer. The two of them walked to the car and he squeezed her hand once before letting go and then unlocked it for the two of them to get in. He took his seat and started up the car, looking behind him and then in front before starting it and putting it into drive.

Ari hopped up and into the passenger seat of the car. “Okay fine, don’t spoil it.” She smiled brightly at him, putting on her seat belt and setting her feet on the dash as she always did when she was in the car with him. It was always so relaxing in the car, and being with Avan made it even better. There was a feeling of happiness and joy in the air and she couldn’t keep a smile off her face. They were now out of her neighborhood and officially on their way to the beach. Reaching down, she flicked on the radio but kept the volume quiet, just to have background noise. Ariana couldn’t help but hum along to the songs, trying not to break out into song as much as she could. “Thanks for taking me out,” She said to Avan with a smile before continuing her humming. She was so thankful for him every day. But today was better than any other.
Avan was glad Ari was still cheerful, and flexible about it. He knew some girls wanted everything their way but Ari was always the type of girl who wasn’t that stubborn, she could just go with the flow and not complain. He loved that about her. He also loved that she could relax around him, because it was the same vice versa. With her, things were so simple. It was like they didn’t have a care in the world. Being with her felt like nothing could bring them down, even if they were just sitting in his car driving down the streets. “Of course, babe. But hey, when I have a gorgeous girl like you, how could I not take you out?” He smiled and stole a glance at her for just a second. Hearing her hum reminded him of her love for music; that was definitely something they shared. Avan wasn’t sure how some people didn’t appreciate music. Then, this reminded him of something else. “Oh! Your music video came out today,” he started. Of course he had already seen it, but he knew it was such an anticipated thing that he should still bring it up. “Which of course was amazing. You pretty excited?” He asked knowingly, because of course she had to be excited for it.

Ariana blushed again. “You’re so charming,” She said with a laugh. Then, at his next sentence, her smile grew wider and she sat up a little straighter in her seat. “I’m so excited!” You could hear it in her voice. Honestly, she had been waiting months for it to be released and now that it was out, she couldn’t be more pumped up. Hopefully her fans loved it as much as she did. Hearing that Avan loved it, made her even happier. He was one of the many people on her ‘stamp of approval’ list. If he liked it, then she knew it must actually be good. And that made her happy. After all, it was her first music video.
They eventually turned down a sandy, dirt road that lead to the beach and she rolled down the window a bit. The smell of salt water instantly hit her and she smiled, looking over at Avan. “Are you excited?” She asked, still smiling. Ariana felt like bouncing up and down in her seat with excitement. Almost like a small child in a candy shop. Looking out the window, she was happy to see that so far, there was maybe one or two other couples on the beach. That meant more privacy, which to Avan and Ariana, was wonderful. They didn’t get a lot of privacy and the last thing they needed was to be asked for autographs or pictures or to be chased by paparazzi. She leaned back against the seat, smiling and embracing every detail of now.
Avan smiled immediately at her excitement. He could tell from the way her voice chimed and the way she was practically dancing in her seat, that she really meant it. It was the cutest thing, and he had to keep his eyes on the road because at times he just couldn’t look away from her. “I am! And the fans are going to love it, I promise.” As they approached the beach, and the smell of the salt water flooded the car, he was filled with excitement. It was definitely one of his favorite places. The outdoors was always something he liked. And it seemed that, with the weather and the amount of people in view, tonight was a great night to be here. He kept driving as he searched for a space to park.
Avan laughed at how Ariana seemed to be enjoying herself so much. How she smiled and gave off all this positive energy. It was contagious, too. After finally parking, he turned to her with just as much excitement and smiled. “Thanks for being my valentine, sweetie.” He kissed her softly on the lips and then pulled away, opening his door now. “Let’s go!” He said, as if he even needed to tell her once, and then scrambled out of the car. Once he was outside, he looked around and saw that he was right. Not that many people were here at all. He went to the front of the car, breathing in the fresh air, taking it all in for a moment and then walked to Ari, reaching out for her hand. “So what do you want to do first? Smores, build a fire, food, sandcastle?” He laughed. He felt silly saying this but he couldn’t help it. He wanted to be romantic and playful around Ariana. He stepped closer to her and kissed her on the forehead. “Unless you have better ideas?” Being at the beach was good enough and no matter what silly things they did he would be glad to be here with Ari at his side.

Ari & Avan | Night at the Beach
“Of course! It’s an honor,” She responded with a smile before gently kissing him back. And with that, they were both out of the car and into the open air. It was almost completely quiet, except for the sound of the waves against the sand. And Ariana took a few seconds to just enjoy the peacefulness of it all. She scrunched up her nose, thinking about his question. There was so much to do. After taking his hand, she smiled when he kissed her. She looked up at him, “Let’s build a fire.” She picked one at random, but that would do. Warmth, light and who knows what else always came with fire, so she figured it was a good place to start. But then she realized, “I know absolutely nothing about fire starting though.” She was well aware of that, and admitted it with a laugh.
Ari glanced around before looking back to Avan. Leaning up a bit, she gently kissed him on the cheek and then turned, still holding his hand, to walk towards the sand. It really was wonderful out here and she was happy they’d come. After all, beach scenes in movies were always cute and romantic and all that jazz. And honestly, Ariana loved that. She loved feeling loved and loving others, so this day was almost made for her. She found it funny how much she caught herself thinking about Avan. It seemed like he could do nothing wrong, though she knew that wasn’t true. Everyone made mistakes sometimes, as she would know very well, but he didn’t make them very often. And if he ever did, she didn’t seem to notice. He really was incredible, like some sort of prince or knight or something. Now, she couldn’t keep her eyes off him. As they walked on the beach, she looked up, smiling brightly at him with so much happiness it almost hurt. And then, after looking forward again, she smiled mischievously. “I’ll race you to the water?” She didn’t wait for an answer, but instead just took off running.
When Ariana scrunched up her nose in thought all Avan could do was stand there and watch her adoringly. While to anyone else, she might be just another girl. With Avan, he didn’t see her that way. She was a gem, there weren’t many girls like her out there. Not many who were both so attractive as well as had an amazing personality to match. Her smile shone brightly, especially in the moonlight out here which emphasized her features. He was glad she suggested a fire first. It was good to try to get it going early on. He laughed along with her. “Don’t worry, I got it covered,” he assured her.
Avan found himself just taking his surroundings in again. The peacefulness of the beach, the faint sounds of the waves, the smell of the ocean, the sand underneath them. And of course, Ariana walking with him, who looked beautiful as ever in this light. His mind was almost vacant as he walked and just watched her lovingly. And then his eyes wondered out to the horizon. His thoughts captured in the moment, he didn’t realize at first what Ari had said. He wasn’t even fully snapped out of his thoughts until he felt her hand slip out of his so that he turned to see her running off excitedly. Avan laughed at the sight of her, now realizing what she had said and also took off. Ditching his shoes near the water, he chased her, gaining on her now. “Better hurry up,” he called out teasingly and then after a few seconds he caught up, wrapping his arms around her waist from behind. “What do I get for winning?” He said into her ear. “Do I get to throw you into the water?” He joked, chuckling and pulling her in close in a tight hug.
